County Transportation Metrics is a project of the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) and will provide a roadmap for setting transportation priorities.

Goals & Guiding Principles

The purpose of the County Transportation Metrics project is to assist counties in developing performance measures to improve the delivery of transportation programs and projects.

WSAC staff convened an Advisory Committee composed of public works directors and county engineers representing all regions of the state.  The role of the Advisory Committee was to provide direction in formulating performance measures, to provide guidance on data collection, and to serve as a sounding board.

In 2012, the Advisory Committee developed the following guiding principles:

 Guiding Principle 1 - Project/Program Delivery

    • Our transportation projects and programs will focus on being on-time and on-budget.

Guiding Principle 2 - System Preservation/Maintenance

    • Our transportation system activities will provide positive stewardship for the infrastructure which has been built.

Guiding Principle 3 - System Safety

    • Our transportation systems will strive for the safe movement of people and products. It has been and will continue to be our goal to reduce accidents which cause fatalities, disabling injuries and property damage. Safe and modern work environments for our employees are a common goal for counties.

Guiding Principle 4 - Environment (air, water, land)

    • Our transportation system will seek to maintain a healthy environment and will support outcomes that are environmentally sound and create less waste and pollution from transportation activities.
